Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will use the funds to expand its peer support, provide training for aspiring peer specialists, and work with its partners and advocates to increase education and awareness.
DEERFIELD, Ill., March 3, 2025 – The Lundbeck US Charitable Fund announced today a donation to Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) in the form of nearly $300,000.
The funding will support DBSA as the organization works with its 80 chapters to recruit and train more peers on how to facilitate a support group meeting, offer national online support groups to individuals living with mood disorders, as well as specialized support groups for different segments of the DBSA community.
“DBSA envisions wellness for people living with mood disorders,” said Michael Pollock, CEO of DBSA. “Our goal is to ensure that anyone seeking peer support, whether through a local community-based DBSA chapter, online support groups, or in a structured setting with the help of a peer specialist, has access regardless of their circumstances. We also aim to increase provider awareness and belief in peer support to ultimately achieve peer support as a standard recommendation as part of an individual’s treatment plan for a mental health condition.”
DBSA will also evaluate the successes and challenges of this program and create a road map for the nation to train, hire, and grow the peer support workforce to address the shortage of mental health providers.
“The Lundbeck US Charitable Fund was established to support organizations like DBSA who are dedicated to brain health and building community support systems to improve disease educations and care,” said Molly Poarch, President of the Lundbeck US Charitable Fund. “We are proud to partner with DBSA as the leading peer advocacy organization for people with mood disorders to further advance their community impact.”
